Der Bundesverband der Belegärzte e. V. ist ein freier, fachgruppenübergreifender, berufspolitischer Verband. Belegärzte sind freipraktizierende Ärzte, die an der stationären ärztlichen Versorgung mitwirken und ihre Patienten nicht nur in der eigenen Praxis ambulant, sondern in Belegabteilungen oder -krankenhäusern stationär behandeln. Der Belegarzt ist kein Angestellter des Krankenhauses und nicht weisungsgebunden.
