Les Archéens, qui avaient travaillé durement pour construire leur petit coin de paradis sur Terra Incognita, ont été terriblement meurtris par l'invasion des Vermines. Natren a personnellement beaucoup souffert de la perte de son meilleur ami. Les Thjazis sont aux abonnés absents et les colons livrés à eux-mêmes dans le système Thjazi dévasté. Alors qu'ils se relèvent lentement de cette épreuve, voilà que débarquent de mystérieux humains venus tout droit du système solaire. Dans un dernier élan désespéré, ils implorent le secours des Archéens. Qui sont ces personnes ? Que viennent-elles faire ici ? Comment ont-ils connu l'existence de la colonie ? Pourquoi ont-ils entrepris un si long voyage sans certitude sur ce qu'ils trouveraient à l'arrivée ? Les Archéens ne le savent pas encore, mais leur monde est sur le point de connaître de nouveaux bouleversements qui vont changer la face de la colonie à jamais.
