This will be the initial homepage design -- we'll have our own team take care of creating additional pages off of this template, so for now all we'll need is one page in .PSD format.
The website is based on Wordpress, and we'll be using Buddypress as a platform quite extensively. Good information to have in case it makes a difference in the design phase.
The homepage is going to be a huge part of our identity, so upon first entering it, the visitor should know that we serve as both a magazine and a community for women travelers. There should be a sharp and organized selection of articles as well as very active social media integration. The website should be striking and interesting to look at. We want people to want to stay around for a while, and to have fun clicking on things and navigating around. Women should come to the page and immediately feel inspired to travel and live adventurously!
The primary menu items will be: Read, Discover, Connect, Shop. I would like to have a secondary horizontal navigation that responds to the clicks of the items in the primary navigation rather than using drop-down menus, but this may be something to leave to the developer.
Near the primary navigation: a search bar, subscribe to newsletter button and member login; possibly social media links. Would be nice to have the option to login via Facebook/Twitter/Google.
I am a HUGE fan of Girlosophy's footer, here: http://pinterest.com/pin/152418768610491653/
I would like to have a footer very similar to this one, with the following links:
Who We Are
What is a Go Girl?
Join our Team
-Go Girl in the Media
-Advertise with us
The footer can also include links to social media and other elements that Girlosophy has on their page.
WHAT'S ON THE HOMEPAGE?
Front page should display:
1-On top: An image slider or other interesting way to curate recent articles, with space for a title and/or a quick description of the article.
2-On the bottom, above the footer: A compilation of most recent/most popular articles in bottom half (see matadornetwork.com, clutchmagonline.com, or gogirlonline.com for examples of this). The articles in the bottom portion will be labeled with categories, tags, title, thumbnail image, number of comments.
3-In the middle: Information about current members, joining Go Girl, and announcements. Possibly an event calendar to encourage our social emphasis, or a map to show our global impact. Or both!
There should be lots of tactful space for advertisers to display 150x150px ads as well as a couple of banner ads. One banner ad needs to be above the fold. The rest may be below the fold.
