micahstubz got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Design a clean attractive homepage for sodlawn.com

Our site is a brochure site to collect leads for our sod business. Our target audience is homeowners in California.
We would like to see a map of california showing the major metro areas we serve. I will include a sample graphic I created. We don't need it to be extremely flashy but we want to be a cut above the competition with our design and stand out. We want a clean design with some splashes of green and black or dark grey. We will also include our newly designed logo. You can use our logo as a guide for your design. Our phone number needs to show up large in the header or first thing in the sidebar. We don't have to have a sidebar for the homepage but every other page with have a sidebar on the right side with a form for gather information for a free quote. If we can get this form on the homepage that would be great. We obviously want pictures of grass and sod. Happy people are nice.
We want to focus on the homepage. After we select the designer there will likely be work with supporting pages. We need to quickly communicate a few things on the homepage: 1. We deliver fresh sod all over California. 2. We also have experts that can help them choose the right sod for their needs. 3. They can also get a free quote. This is how we get the leads so it is most important. We also want to draw their attention to our sod installation and care guide that will help them establish their new lawn. We also want to feature customer testimonials. The goal is to get them to call or request a free quote.
What to avoid
Avoid light green and yellow. We use wordpress but we don't want to have a simple wordpress theme. We have a developer that can implement any design.
One problem with our existing site is that the phone number is a graphic rather than text. So when you incorporate the phone number it needs to be flat text so our developer can use text rather than an image. The theme we have installed on the new site is avada with a revolution slider. It can be found at themeforest.com We don't have to keep it but you are welcome to use the design elements you find there which may make it quicker and easier to implement the design. But don't let that limit your design. Ultimately, we want your creativity to shine.
