yelopomelo got their new product packaging by running a design contest:
Premium gift box design in time for Christmas (baby blankets)
Check out yelopomelo's Product packaging contest…
Description of the product
We produce premium muslin swaddle blankets for babies. This design contest is for a box that will contain a set of 3 white + grey, gender-neutral blankets. These blankets are made from a 70% bamboo/30% cotton blend, which is much softer than regular cotton. The blanket designs are attached.
Description of the product target audience
People buying gifts for new parents. Middle class. USA.
[THIS DESIGN BRIEF IS ALSO ATTACHED AS A PDF] We want a modern design that appeals to young, affluent parents. This product will come on the market in time for the Christmas season, so we also want the box to attract people looking to buy a gift. The box (at least the front and sides) should therefore look like a beautiful gift. This product will be sold exclusively on Amazon, so the packaging will mainly be viewed as an image online, possibly in combination with an image of the blankets (an example is shown in the attached amazon-example.jpg). Attaching packages from other competitors as examples (competitor1.jpg, competitor2.jpg), but you don’t need to follow their style (and anyway their boxes are different because of the windows). For inspiration, here is a pinterest board with premium/luxe package designs we like: https://www.pinterest.com/wippetywu/package-design/ Please design using the attached cut file (cut-file.ai). It is a simple carton box. We have also attached the designs that will be printed on the three blankets (blanket-arrow.png, blanket-penguin.png, blanket-pineapple.png). FRONT - Prominent title: Muslin Swaddles - Subtitle: Super soft & breathable muslin swaddle blankets - Optional text (if any of this text is not used on the front, please put it on one of the sides): o 3 pre-washed muslin swaddle blankets o 70% viscose made from bamboo and 30% cotton o 47” x 47” | 120 cm x 120 cm - Attached are two versions of our logo (logo.png, logo-text-only.png). Feel free to adjust the colors. The fonts used for the logo are Helena and Fredericka the Great: o https://befonts.com/helena-font.html o http://www.1001fonts.com/fredericka-the-great-font.html SIDE(S) - The optional text above, if not placed on the front. - Our logo. TOP SIDE - Please design a short message for customers to email us, similar to what’s shown in EMAIL-US.jpg, but ideally not as loud/cheesy. If you’re not sure what to write, you can use: o “We want you to love this product as much as we do. If you have any questions or concerns, please write us.” email@example.com BACK - How to swaddle instructions: Please design a graphic that instructs how to swaddle a baby. Attached are some examples from others (how-to-swaddle1.jpg, how-to-swaddle2.jpg, how-to-swaddle3.jpg); our favourite is the one with the fox, because it is less typical than using a baby. Ideally the instructions should be clear from the graphic itself, without too much text. - Care instructions: o Wash before first use. Machine wash cold. Gentle cycle. Tumble dry low. Do not bleach. Do not iron. Do not dryclean. - Please include the attached barcode (X001GNW7YN.png) and the following text nearby (maybe underneath?): o Made in China. o Manufactured SEPT 2017 o Batch IVY105 - Please add our contact information somewhere: Unit 8, 8/F Tower 1, Harbour Center 1 Hok Cheung St., Hung Hom, Kowloon Hong Kong firstname.lastname@example.org - Our logo.
What to avoid
Avoid cutesy child designs. Emphasize the packaging to look more like a premium, luxury gift.
