Every year, 200,000 veterans transition from military service into civilian life. It’s a challenging time that often results in loss of identity and changes so significant it seems like the veteran is changing planets. For our warriors to live the life of prosperity they deserve they must re-discover their voice and tell their story. That is our Mission at The Heroes Journey. TARGET MARKET: Artwork should appeal to adult ages 20+ and across various ethnic lines. Should appeal to people who are pro- and anti-war, across all party lines.
What's your vision?
24" wide by 36" (with 1/8" bleed all around) tall poster promoting a play: Last Out is a play the starts with the death of the main character, a Green Beret (US Army Special Forces soldier). He dies in an IED explosion in Afghanistan and finds himself in a spiritual holding area, a purgatory if you will. He is given a chance to revisit his life and loved ones on his ultimate journey, to the soldier's heaven, Valhalla. Valhalla comes from Norse mythology and represents (in this play at least) the final resting place for warriors. Part of the imagery of the play includes the soldier laying his rifle down in front of Glasir (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasir) as he ascends to Valhalla. This play is NOT a protest of war. Neither is it about blind patriotism. Instead, it is to help civilians better understand the cost of war and help them see inside the heart and mind of a soldier. It is also to help soldiers deal with the sacrifices they have made and aid them in their return to civilian life. FEEL: this should NOT look like an action movie poster. It should NOT look like an advertisement for the Army or the US military in general. The poster should convey loss and hope at the same time. This is a story of redemption, so we do not want it to be too dark and gloomy. POSSIBLE SYMBOLS: Combat boots, US flag, Rifle (M-16, M4, AR15, etc), helmet, kneeling soldier, Green Beret, Overturned HumVee, etc. STYLE: This could be photorealistic or it could be artwork composed of silhouettes, textures and gradients. Consider incorporating US Army colors, desert camo, etc if appropriate. GOAL: Title and subtitle should be very easy to read. The image should convey the feeling of loss and hope, and the viewer should not have to think about it understand it. Don’t make it too busy. But please experiment!
