Chris123633 got their new other graphic design by running a design contest:
Signature new wall art wanted for The Lane cafe!
Check out Chris123633's Other Graphic Design contest…
For the last 5 years we have been one of the leading '3rd wave' specialist coffee cafes in Perth Western Australia. In that time we have been known as 'Lemon Lane' and we offer a cool, funky, 'lane way' vibe cafe that is everything the soulless, multiple outlet franchise operators are not! We now feel that it is time for a refresh and in line with our new ability to also sell alcohol, and with it an enhanced lunch and evening menu, we are looking to evolve the cafe such that we can re-skin the interior to offer a new look and feel throughout. We recently ran a comp on 99 Designs for a new logo in line with the name change to 'The Lane' and we now need your help with some interior design work too!
What's your vision?
The cafe layout is quite long and narrow (see pictures) and on one of the walls above the booth type seating we have had two large (approximately 2.75m x 1.75m) signature paintings. These were originally done by a local artist and fitted our aim at that time of a fairly minimalist cafe with a logical tie in to the name "Lemon Lane' and the obvious connotations with the colour yellow. Now though we are rebranding the cafe and it is to be renamed "The Lane' (new logo attached) and we are planning a complete refresh of the interior of the cafe. Internal colours will move towards a dark grey ceiling / using natural woods for the front bench counters and some detailing / lighter grey walls / new lighting etc and with this though is the need to replace these two large paintings with our new 'signature piece works' To this end we are planning to have made two panels of a similar size that will be foam covered and then covered in digitally printed material. On this material will be printed the winning designs from this competition!! Not only will the new panels look great but they will also be more functional in that they will help absorb sound and being material based, they will 'soften' the interior as well. What I am looking for in the design is something that picks up the lane way connotations; and in my 'minds eye' I am imagining a collage type graphic that will somehow encompass some of the great lane ways of the world (New York, London, Melbourne, Paris etc...) I believe that many of the best, grooviest, funkiest, 'hidden gem' cafes, bars and eateries are hidden down lane ways in cities and its this cool, off beat type of feel that I want to create. The graphics could encompass pictures / maps / names - whatever - i am open minded - but it needs to be colourful (but not overpowering) striking (but not confusing) and in its own way cool and funky. Our cafes are more 'Keith Richards' than 'Justin Bieber' and I am after a distinct identity that fits this. We are not fine dining, but we are great food served in an awesome environment with passion. I am after something unique and different. Something that grabs people attention and makes a statement -something that captures who we are and puts us on the map with the very best of our style cafes worldwide..... Over to you!!
Our customers are people who go out of their way to find great coffee, service and food - not those who just walk in somewhere because its convenient. They appreciate style, quality, good music and a great atmosphere and they can come from all walks of life - students to bankers, shop clerks to ladies that lunch, gym freaks to beach bodies..... We are somewhere that you can come on your own and hang out for an hour or as a cycling group and 'slam us' in 20 minutes! The key is that we are authentic! We have soul and are a real place run by real people who want to be the best at what we do - not just slaves to the man putting in the hours for a few dollars at the end of the day! The most important thing we offer is a smile and a warm welcome - everything else is a bonus! When people leave our cafe we want to of improved their day!
