What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
For our August issue, we want an image of a boat that has on its bow a menacing black swan. You know the viking boats and other boats throughout history that had a dragon or a beautiful woman carved into the prow? That's the basis for what we're after. Only in this case it's a menacing black swan. In the industry we cover, "black swans" are severe catastrophes that result in massive loss of property and lives. The black swan on the bow of the boat should have menacing red eyes. I'll up load an example of a previous winning cover design that used a menacing black swan with fierce red eyes.
The basis for the idea of a Black Swan boat or Black Swan "ark" is the ARKstorm, a relentless storm, lasting for weeks, that will cause massive flooding. I see the Black Swan on the bow of the boat looking down on the viewer as if the viewer is on land or in a smaller boat that the Black Swan boat is bearing down on. The feeling of the illustration should be one of impending doom.
