The logo should highlight Witless Bay as a friendly, colourful town, beautiful and rich in natural assets, offering year-round activities. The logo should be bold, bright, colourful, & sleek.
MAIN ELEMENT: THE NORTH ATLANTIC PUFFIN.
Please focus on its head or simply its beak. The bird should be easily and clearly identifiable. A great design might be so stylized that the puffin might not have an expression on his face. IF emotions can be read into the bird's face, sadness should be avoided (puffins are easily made to look sad). The puffin should appear proud, stoic, head at the horizontal (not looking down ashamedly, and not with his beak down submissively). The colours of the beak should be saturated - this is our main attraction. The "black" part of the beak works really well as a darkened version of the Town's official indigo (Hex #7C7DC0 / RGB 124,125,192).
OTHER ELEMENTS THAT *COULD* BE HINTED AT
Our town's other distinctive features/attractions include the islands that form part of the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, icebergs, humpback whales, the sea, breakers/waves, rocky beaches (see picture), the fisheries, friendly/welcoming people, and saltbox houses.
Witless Bay is located on the easternmost point in North America, in the frigid waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. Despite the presence of our colourful puffins, Witless Bay is NOT a warm Carribean destination (so no palm trees, no golden sand!). It's best to think of Witless Bay as a place that's lost in the fog somewhere between the North Pole and the Carribean (check out our beaches and our climate in the pictures below). If you do include fog in your concept design, please avoid dreariness!
“Town of Witless Bay.” The words “Witless Bay” must be clearly visible, while the words “Town of” can be in smaller lettering. Text & image should function independently or semi-independently from one another. The font should be clean and sleek.
