The Last Word will draw heavily on the Speakeasy style of bars from the 1920’s while still keeping with the open and airy feel that successful restaurants require today. Distressed and reclaimed woods around the dining room and bar with the old-style Marconi filament light bulbs will add an ambiance and warmth to the dining room. However, the open kitchen will bring a touch of modern flair to the restaurant and add to the overall vibe of the gathering place.
“The Last Word” is a cocktail made famous in Chicago during Prohibition and quickly became famous in many Prohibition districts. It was representative of the fun and life that emanated from New York’s Harlem district during Prohibition. The famous area of Five Points was known for its lively nightlife, incredible parties, and a multi-ethnic area of New York City that brought senators, prominent socialites, entertainers, and common citizens together for night after night of revelry. The Last Word will have throwback events that bring people back to 1927 Harlem with House-Rent parties that will clear the restaurant of furniture, put folding chairs around the outside, and have live jump-up jazz bands so patrons can dance the night away.
