ryanbk got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Design a Simple Logo for Candidate Running for Judge
Check out ryanbk's Logo design contest…
This is for a political candidate running for judge in Ohio. In political logos, the largest and clearest thing should be the last name. It's possible to omit the first name completely but typically it's just incorporated in a smaller way. Think of printing it on an 8.5x11 piece of paper and trying to read it from 50 feet away. You should be able to get the last name first and foremost. Somewhat of the same scenario with the words "for judge." By law, the word for has to be at least 51% as big as the word judge (good to error closer to 60%). There are no limits on ways to make the word judge stand out (bold, etc.)
I've included a couple of the logos that the candidate has identified as a style she likes. No need to follow them completely by any means. Generally speaking, logo should be landscape and somewhere in the range of 150dpi and suitable for printing on an 18x24 sign at its largest.
