Animal & Pet
Site will be written in the voice of a wry, somewhat self-effacing dog (thus the "plain" in the title). The site will do two things: first, capture the dog narrator's musings, including whimsical verse in the manner of Ogden Nash. Secondly, I will be partnering with dog rescue organizations to promote and help find homes for actual black dogs (which tend to be passed over in shelters)--my dog narrator will craft "good home wanted" personals for these actual dogs. Intended to appeal both to dog/animal lovers and those with a sense of humor.
Other color requirements
Since the site is written by and on behalf of black dogs, my illustration will have to feature a black dog. I appreciate that this will limit design possibilities, but I'm hoping it will be possible to come up with more than just a black dog silhouette. I'm also open to creative uses of colors.
Since the site will be narrated by the dog, the illustration should convey a sense of personality. Drawing doesn't have to be literal--I love the purple cow logo. It is whimsical without being slapstick-y or cartoonish. I don't want a child's cartoon dog. Of the images attached, I love the soulful eyes of the dog in the photo. Not sure however that this could translate to a logo. I though of pairing a plaintive face with a crown or tiara, as in the Notorious RBG photo--playing up the "plain" black dog, a bedraggled princess. I was struck by the textures in the deer drawing, though that illustration lacks the sense of whimsy I'm hoping for. I also liked the mischievous minimalism in the one-line drawing--also the animal in a funny, unexpected posture. Tiaras, capes, necklaces, etc. all possibilities.
