With nearly 200 entries from other designers, it took Daniela one attempt to design something that was unique, bold and....perfect. We had the difficult process of combining two logos to form one logo. She was the only designer to use a different shape and, frankly, nailed it on the first attempt. The logo was a winner the second it was entered.

Patrol Coastal Crew LIMA (currently embarked in USS THUNDERBOLT) is a 30-man team and the gallant crew of one of thirteen 179-foot long warships in the United States Navy. We rotate from ship to ship on a periodic basis and conduct coastal patrol and interdiction in the international waters of the middle east, combating piracy and terrorism on the high seas and defending the freedom of the seas in concert with regional and coalition partners.

I'm looking for something different than the usual "round military logo." Something young and hip and aggressive but that nevertheless retains the classic elements of the coat of arms ("Squall Crest" attached) and retains some elegance and dignity.
Needs to contain the name of the organization: "Patrol Coastal Crew LIMA" and the slogan: "The Oncoming Storm." (Note: "USS SQUALL" and "PC 7" are not applicable, just the coat of arms itself in the attached file).
Definitely willing to entertain ideas outside the box, as long as they are AWESOME (preferably in both the modern and Old Testament sense). Nothing cartoonish or puerile, neither slick and corporate.
This will often end up printed on a dark blue background so the logo should complement that color but still stand out. The "Team Alpha" logos above are the inspiration for this contest, but it doesn't need to be derivative.
