Okay, this is a ton of information, but I intend for this contest to draw serious designers who will take the time to get to know my brief and what I'm looking for. I figure in someways it's a really fun project, because I know what I want in terms of content, but I still am looking for a style of creativity that I wasn't even thinking about.
THE MAIN DETAILS:
-The tattoo needs to be a man pushing a boulder up the side of a mountain. That's the basic idea.
-The tattoo will be on my side, under my arm. It can either be large and take up a good portion of the side, without going out too far onto my back or chest. Or it can be smaller and framed like the ship tattoo in the example.
-The concept is based on the greek myth of Sisyphus:
-I am a fan of existentialist philosophy and the works of Albert Camus. He wrote an essay called the Myth of Sisyphus which has had a huge impact on my life:
-That is what gives this idea so much meaning to me. I'm guaranteeing and extending this contest to be a 7 day qualifying round to give everyone plenty of time to get a well thought-out first draft. With time for revisions before the finals. Please let me know if you're working on something though so I have a sense of how many people are in (aside from just watching)!
-I'm open to any type of styling. The key is to make sure it will translate to a real tattoo! I could see it either being very simple without shadows or detail, as long as it's slick or clever, I don't want it to look like I drew it (and I'm not very good at drawing). Or I could also see it being very detailed like a few of the examples below.
I am so excited to see the various styles everyone will be submitting!
-In terms of color, I want it to be black. I like the way some of the examples below have one element of color like the heart or the dress. But I'm a fan of subtlety. Think of the movie Pleasantville, starting at 1:08:
I'm also going to include some links so everyone can get a sense of the different styles that appeal to me:
