How Jane Logan started their card or invitation journey
Who are you known as?
Duck's Nest Parent Association
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
The Duck’s Nest Parent Association, a non profit organization, was founded more than two decades ago and all parents are automatically members of this organization. Parents have an opportunity to deepen their ties to the school and help develop a sense of community. The Duck’s Nest Parent Association also offers a vehicle by which parents help support the preschool experience of their child.
As well as supporting the schools, teachers and administrative staff Duck’s Nest Parent Association members reach out to the broader community by supporting community based organizations such as: “The Harrison House”(a homeless shelter), “The Piedmont Gardens” (a senior center), a “Mini March for Cystic Fibrosis”, a “Library in Mexico”, “Save Pennies” for animal care groups, etc.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
We are doing our Annual Auction Fundraising Gala and would like to update the invitation. Attached are versions of last year's invite, a "logo" someone made, and the donation list. Most of the copy/text is relevant/should be the same, however this year's event is on Thursday Nov 14th. (I would like to be able to edit the text a little)
We don't have a budget for designing and printing this -> so I most likely will be using a color printer at work, bringing in an easy to find cardstock I buy at Office Max or maybe Paper Source to print on. I have a paper cutter and bone folder - and would be fine cutting sheets in half or doing folding after printing....but nothing too time intensive!
Just want the overall feel to the piece to be high-end but not too expensive, modern, kid-friendly but adult. This is an adult only event with wine tasting and small bites and the goal is to raise ~$10K in enrichment and scholarship funds for our preschool.
*Really* not wedded to the existing logo. Want a sophisticated/restrained color palette. Would like to keep some type of reference to reaching for the star image (maybe without being completely literal) since it has been in use for 5 years or more, but really open to other options. Do not want full color bleed since I will be handcutting these - happy to just buy colored paper if that is necessary to fulfill vision of design. goal here (and why I am paying for contest) is to really elevate design of invite and convey a more upscale vibe (we are trying to take this event from raising ~$10K a year to raising 2-3x that.
p.s. Before deciding to try 99designs for a contest I looked at paperlesspost.com and tinyprints.com for invites. They had nice, clean designs but they couldn't accommodate all the text and other details.
This is an adult only event, so I want the invite to convey that its a little more fancy than a regular date night for the parents attending but still authentic, real, not too stuffy.
