Creating a striking cover for my book on why Europe's economies & politics are in a mess

I'm an independent author who writes books on economics and politics targeted at an intelligent international (in this case primarily European) audience
What's your vision?
I'm looking for a design for the cover of my new book, "European Spring: Why Our Economies and Politics are in a Mess - And How to Put Them Right". Since it will primarily be sold as an e-book, it needs to be simple and striking enough to work well as a thumbnail on Amazon. However, since it will also be available as print-on-demand, I need a full cover design, including spine and back. The title of the book describes what it is about: in essence that the long economic crisis is causing a dangerous political backlash and a lurch towards xenophobia that ultimately threatens our open societies. Bold reforms are needed so that our economies start delivering better living standards for everyone again and our politics becomes more open, honest and inspiring. "European Spring" is a metaphor for the economic and political renewal that Europe needs. In design terms, some metaphor for Spring might work, but then again it might not: I trust your creativity. I'd prefer something abstract rather than a photographic image. As an example of what I like, I've attached the cover designs for various editions of one of my previous books, Immigrants: Your Country Needs Them - but again please be creative. Thanks!
