What's your vision?
Hi! UPDATE: I've attached 2 images that I think would work for the book cover. Please design a book cover using these images. THE ASSIGNMENT: I need a book cover (5.25 X 8 paperback for createspace) and ebook cover Title: LOVE IN A TIME OF WAR A World War Two Inspirational Romance, set in Budapest, Hungary. I've included a description of the novel below. For design inspiration, I've really admire two recent book covers from the author, Adriana Trigiani: The Supreme Macaroni Company, and The Shoemaker's Wife. I've included thumbnails of both covers below. So, I'm looking for an 'artistic' look rather than a literal photo-interpretation, in my book cover. If you have any further questions, please ask. Thank you! Here's a brief synopsis of my novel, LOVE IN A TIME OF WAR (this is the final title) In this emotionally powerful WWII drama, children’s book writer Natalie Lucas looks to her faith in God to help her beloved Jewish niece Mila escape the approaching Nazi menace in Hungary. Natalie’s twin sister, the celebrated poet and professor, Anna Lucas, has succumbed to early-onset dementia, making the situation even more unstable for Natalie and Mila. Natalie and Anna’s personal and professional relationship provides an interesting subplot which focuses on the foundations of sisterly love and rivalry. In the meantime, surrounded by violence and the threat of capture, Natalie must find a safe way out of the country for Mila. She eventually turns to her teenage sweetheart, Deszo, a Professor of Economics whom she rejected in order to marry her true love, Max. (Max died five years before the start of the story). The past love triangle between Deszo, Natalie and Anna adds further complications; however, Deszo may provide Mila with her only chance of escape. As Natalie and Deszo are thrown together by their mission to save Mila, their love for one another is re-ignighted. After the Nazis learn of Deszo’s assistance to the Jews, he and Natalie are brutally interrogated by a Nazi officer who has been following their activities, and their lives are in danger. After many doubts as to who in their community is friend or foe, the novel culminates with a heart-wrenching conclusion which provokes questions of loyalty, family and above all—faith. One note regarding the romance element...The main characters are in their mid-40s, and although Natalie and Deszo acknowledge their renewed love for one another, and eventually marry (off-screen, in the future). In the novel, there is nothing more physical than a kiss at the door. This is definitely a G-rated Inspirational romance.
I am pretty specific in the 'look' I am hoping for, and thank you in advance for your inspiration and design! Please do not submit book covers that involve photos of people or places. I'm actually looking for something more art-centered, such as a painting, or the two examples I provided. I'll try to find more examples to provide inspiration. Thank you!
